From the South Wales Argus - July 5th 1916:

"At Newport Police Court on Wednesday (4th July 1916).
Frank Shepski, 108 Lewis Street, was summoned for being an alien enemy, did make a false statement when registering himself at Newport on January 30.
Superintendent Tanner said the prisoner stated he was an American but really he was a German.
- Prisoner: I'm not. I'm a German Pole...
When asked if he could be tried today or referred to the Quarter Sessions, prisoner said 'I'll be tried today if the judge won't make it hard for me. (Laughter)
- The Bench decided that the prisoner should be interned."
